Children and teens with sarcoma are treated at Seattle Children's, a parent organization of Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Seattle Children's has a long history of successfully treating children and teens for sarcoma.
Sarcoma is a form of cancer that begins in the bone, soft tissues, or connective tissues. There are many types of sarcoma. The symptoms depend on the type of disease, where it is, and how much it has grown or spread.
Cancer in children and teens is not very common. Only about one percent of cancers diagnosed in the United States are in children or teens, which is why community doctors often have limited knowledge of pediatric cancer treatment.
Almost all children with cancer in the United States receive treatment through one of the children’s cancer centers that make up the Children’s Oncology Group, like Seattle Children's, a parent organization to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Because Children's doctors take part in national and international research studies, and often lead them, Children's can offer new treatment options that many other hospitals cannot give their patients.
Your child’s doctor at Children's will do a physical exam first to look for signs of cancer and will ask about your child’s health history. The doctor may recommend a number of tests to help identify the type of cancer and see whether it has spread, including a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.
